A Week in Review
10 05 2008I am sitting in my living room on Saturday morning - 9:13 AM - drinking my coffee and watching
Sportscenter. My family is prepping for our day - Nealy is taking Jaylen and Brayden clothes shopping - as we’ve just come to the realization that the kids have hardly any summer clothes that fit. SO - it looks like we’ll be dropping some cabbage for that today. Nathan and I are going to be leaving in a few minutes to go to Lowes. I am going to be venturing into a home improvement project today — installing a landscaping wall around my house. Should be interesting. Here’s the block I’m putting in -I’ll post a pic in a few days and let you know how it turned out.
There was a lot of activity at Calvary this week - thought I’d give you a quick rundown.
Sunday - Last week we concluded our 2 week series about worship. I received a ton of positive feedback about the series - people saying that it really helped them put what we do as a church in a proper perspective. You may want to check out the audio of the messages online - there were a lot of important elements throughout the service - so you won’t get the full effect from the audio of the message - but it’ll give you some basic idea.
Sunday night we had an appreciation dinner for our Group leaders. We had about 60 group leaders attend. We shared what we felt was some very important information about the future of our groups - and tried to provide them with some good resources. You can listen to one of those resources on Calvary’s website.
Wednesday was the 1st Wednesday of the month of May — so we had our FIRST WEDNESDAY worship service. We currently have 4 adult lifegroups and about 14 teen lifegroups that meet on Wednesdays. On FIRST WEDNESDAY - all of the adults and any of the teen groups who want gather in the Worship Center for a time of praise — and I taught. We had about 60 or so people gathered together - it was a great night. I shared some important updates about various things happening at Calvary.
Friday - our summer intern arrived. His name is Logan Thompson - he will be a Senior at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN next year. Johnson is my alma mater. Logan is a preaching major - and he is serving as our preaching intern for the next 10-11 weeks. We have provided him a place to stay - and are giving him what amounts to a weekly “allowance.” I would like to request that you make an effort to get to know Logan - and invite him to join you/your family for a meal sometime. This would be good for him relationally - and would also help him out financially. Logan will be doing some preaching/teaching this summer - and will help out in all areas of the church…from children to adults. We want to give him a wide range of experiences.
Please keep us in your prayers this week. Our search team for the new LifeGroups Minister position is interviewing 3 strong candidates on Monday night. Pray for wisdom and discernment - that God would help the group to find clarity and agreement on the person that God wants for Calvary. Pray for the candidates too!
Also keep our Children’s Minister search team in your prayers. We are quickly narrowing down our search - and we think God may be making his plans very clear. We are hoping to be able to take our recommendations for both positions to the Elders within a week or two.
